Cowled Capelet

Brighten up your winter! Make toasty beautiful in this cowled capelet that feels like a glorious hug. Designed to be worn over a jacket or a coat (even bare arms), here’s a design as practical as it is gorgeous. Three versions provide multiple options: a hooded necklet for collar-like warmth, a hooded capelet as defense against winter’s bluster or a cowled capelet to add drama to even the biggest chill.

View 1 is knit on size 11 US/ 8mm circular needles while views 2&3 use size 13 US/9mm needles. All views suggest a mix of angora, mohair, silk and wool, though most worsted-weight or sport yarns doubled work for this design. Choose rich coppery reds, as in versions 1 & 3, version 2’s tapestry meld of purples, olives and teal or your own color scheme. My yarn forage list suggests variations. Seed stitch, knit and purl with one row of yarnover along the bottom edge are the only stitches used. Color Photo Maps help guide color blends. Skill level: intermediate beginner.

Both feature bands of embossed leaf stitch with 3D leafy dangles and are knit primarily in hand-dyed Fleece Artist silk & merino with specialty yarn accents. Optional beading enhances the leaf stems and brings demension to the piece. This is bound to be a special accessory for a coat or jacket.

Seagrass Capelet

Here's a little capelet perfect for cool summer evenings and airconditioning. Shoulder shaping and a single button closure provides hands-free comfort combining the drape of a shawl with the ease of a poncho. It's easy to knit on circular needles (though not knit in the round) using a mix of yarns. In fact, just about any yarn will work for this style. Optional embellishments include ribbon tassels and beaded front ends.

A color guide in the pattern provides tips for selecting and blending your own color choices and an alternate view is shown in blue.
