Christie Furber and I do a two-step swing
I stopped taking myself too seriously a long time ago. Now, I just want to have fun, do what I love (knit, travel, bead, eat) and meet great people along the way. Here you see a picture of two knitters (who also happen to be former teachers) having fun displaying our knitted wares—Christie's (Furber) Celestial Blue wrap and my Road to Taos (the design was actually destined for the Taos workshop). We're standing in Ricki Darbe's sunroom. You will note that my hair is now curly. According to my husband, we women obsess about two things: our weight and our hair. Guilty on both counts. On this trip the pressure to let my hair return to it's naturally curly state finally compelled me to give it a try. Above you see the results. Unfortunately, I went to my hairdresser the moment I got back to 'cut it curly' and left looking like she spat on me and stuffed me in a wind tunnel. The good news is that, once washed and applied with curl-crisping product, it managed to behave itself in a reasonable manner. She's really a marvelous, very talented, stylist entitled to a few bad hair days. All right then, Jane's obsessing. Enough already. Where was I? Oh, yes—knitting in Santa Fe, part three (don't worry: I'm working my way to Taos. I should get there soon.)
Nooy Swirls
As I mentioned, I'm smitten by Santa Fe. My reasons are varied but chief among them is the people. A place like this attracts vibrant artistic souls such as Nooy seen above swirling her wrap (of her own design) not to mention all the local knitters who attended my workshops. Ambience is captured in every shop, restaurant, and history-infused street corner. With a population of only 50,000 (and five yarn stores), SF carries a small-town feel occasionally swollen with the tribes of visitors that come streaming in from the lowlands. Ricki and I ARE moving ahead to plan another workshop/retreat in May. Stay tuned.
