For me, colour and texture rule and most of the inspiration feeding my imagination comes from the natural world. I see knitting as art, as viable as any other, and no matter what the tool or preferred palette, in human hands, magic happens.

SUMMER KNIT ALONG

iresizephoto_400_01

Two Summer Knitalong Projects

Over the past few weeks, a summer knitalong has been running in my Ravelry group that has brought forth the most incredible font of self-expressive knitting wizardry.

Here's the criteria:

This is the place for a friendly competition for my fans, based on a favorite travel destination, or even one of your own fantasy. The pattern must be one of my patterns, or one of your own invention but not offered for sale to the public. (However, if you were so inclined, you might want to do so later, …no problem.)

Project size is not an issue, anything from a scarf to house cozy.  I’ve never seen a house cosy , by the way, so if you want to be the first…

                * Start date: June 12th. End date July 31st
* A prize draw of Blue Heron yarn which every finished (and photographed project) may enter to win!

Other guidelines:

1. Must be multi-yarny free range. Naturally, the more yarn the better it is.
2. Inspired by a travel destination and reflect this theme
3. Include something specifically from your travel destination. (If this is a fantasy one, be creative!)
4. Process sharing: Help others grow in creativity by sharing your process here in this thread by including place photos; a discussion of your inspiration and how you are creating a theme around it; the yarn choices to express your theme; how the pattern and garment you have chosen works with your theme; feelings and difficulties you may have along the way; etc.

Cast away, me maties!

The Kal brought forth such incredible entries, it left me speechless. Everyone's found their inner designer, created a piece of wearable art AND enjoyed the process. Is that a vacation or what? The prize is the process itself where everyone is a winner but three lots of Blue heron yarn will be given to three designers whose names will be drawn at the end of this month. Over the next few blog entries I'll be sharing photos of the finished pieces along with what fired their inspiration. The names of three winners will be drawn on August first.

In the meantime:

Posted by order of entry into my Ravelry gallery, the first photo shown above contains two entries, one by Melba (Melbav on Ravelry) with a hooded creation she designed from my Woven Woods vest but with plenty of her own ingenuity inspired by Tuscan fields and the second, by Kimstitches on Ravelry, is a toasted gold scarf inspired by sunflowers burnishing in Tuscan fields.

2. The next photo above shows Christy (Yarnplenty on Ravelry)  in a salsa-vibrant 'Looking for Terracotta'ponco of her own design inspired by a vacation to San Miguel, Mexico, and her companion in the photo is a beachy-mood top designed by Knotty Artisian on Ravelry.

3.and the third posting today is, at the top, is Ravelry's Passiontocreate's freerange jacket inspired by a gorgeous sunset keeping company with Andrea's 'Montañas del Fuego', a piece knitted and embellished upon the body of an old                   sweater, inspired by her native lanscape in Spain.          Pretty amazing, yes? More to come in subsequent postings.
