JANE IN A FASHION

In this month's issue of Vogue
I can only hope I won't be shot a dawn for posting a picture from Vogue magazine without their permission but I just had to celebrate this bit of fashion sensibility and cheer on the knitterly wiles so portrayed. Guess what? Knitting is STILL fashionable and my kind of knitting (lots of different yarns mixed into the blemd) seems to be reaching some kind of uber level of fashionability! I mean, just look at that dress!
Now, I admit that imagining myself wearing that dress stops just short of panic. Here's my mental picture: familiar with those mesh bags some onions and oranges come in? Okay, now imagine a sack filled with ...um, melons...okay then, pumpkins! Rest assured I will not be wearing any openwork knit dresses any time in the future but for those who can and those who will, bravo!
I love fashion, always have. I'm one of those people who can't run to the gym unless coordinated. In fact, my gym instructor has been know to call me 'the fashion plate'. Me, whose body seems to possess no flat surfaces, has trouble applying the word 'plate' to any aspect of myself but realize she must be referring to the little shrug I don over my gear. Doesn't everyone have a little Watergarden shrug to toss over their workout gear? And what's wrong with not shrinking like a violet when seen in public? Guilty as charged: I love clothes.
My house is as littered by magazines as my notebooks are filled with sketches. I always believed I should have been a fashion designer. I just didn't realize that maybe I am one. Here's the thing, about a year ago author Janet Engle phoned me up to ask if I'd grant an interview on how my business came to fruition. 'Sure', said I.
Then, last week I received a copy of : 'How to Open & Operate a Financially Successful Fashion Design Business' and there I was. Only, trust me when I say this was the first time I realized that I might actually BE a fashion designer. I certainly don't try to knit fashionably per se. In fact, for plenty of years my style seemed to represent the very opposite of what's considered fashionable. Now I'm thinking...hmmm, maybe it's time to knit a nice little pumpkin sack for wearing to the store....
