For me, colour and texture rule and most of the inspiration feeding my imagination comes from the natural world. I see knitting as art, as viable as any other, and no matter what the tool or preferred palette, in human hands, magic happens.

CULTURE FUSION WRAP POSTED TODAY

abovebeyond_wrapemail_400

The Jane Thornley Dictionary of Non-Existent Words cites 'fushion' as a meld between fashion+fusion=fushion, a perfect handle for this cross-cultural celebration of indigenous colors mixed with the world's most favorite embellishment: beads! The colors in this version are earthy, a mix of charcoal, silver, copper and rusty red. The look crackles with tribal adventure, exotic locales, and a sense of individuality.

Colors of Inspiration

But, supposing you do not feel like going tribal? Supposing, instead, your fancy leans to a ropey-colored, beach-hued, wrap knit in linen, cotton or hemp and that you're imagining your i-cords dangling with shells? Or, maybe you're leaning towards a pretty, wedding party confection gleaming in soft cream silks (Tilli Tomas? Alchemy? Fiesta Pearl Drops?) with little freshwater pearls dangling on your i-cords? Fact is, this pattern craves to be whatever you want, something uniquely yours and festooned with your collection of beaded treasures. The directions do list every yarn I used, which are mainly Tilli Tomas's Burnt Pepper black beaded silk, Great Adriondack's Surprise in Leopard and an assorthment of bits and pieces to coordinate with the colors. Of course, I use ribbon because I can't help myself.

My group on Ravelry are considering launching a knitalong with this pattern and challenging creativity by free-ranging the basic pattern into some individual little beauty. More detail to follow in next week's posting.

Stitches are my basic recipe of seed, drop and simple open work with the i-cord embellishments.
