TAOS: THE KNITTED CANYON RETREAT 09 Spet 9-14th

KNITTING IN TAOS
SEPTEMBER 9-14th 2009
More Information to follow
IMAGINE visiting North America's mystical, magical community of art & design while:
- Knitting in the famed estate of the Mabel Dodge Luhan House (see below)
- foraging in some fabulous bead and yarn stores including LaLana in Taos
- strolling through historical and beautiful streets of Santa Fe, Taos and Old Town, Albuquerque
- attending the world renown International Folk Festival
In other words, days full of gorgeous scenery, art, and design served with sides of yarn, great food and great companions. Does it get any better?
If you have yet to visit Taos, be prepared to fall in love. The light and color here has attracted artists for centuries and will continue to do so for as long as creative folks have eyes to see and souls to feel. This is a deeply spiritual and inspirational place.

Knit the landscape that inspired Georgia O'Keefe

Taos has been attracting artists and creative souls for a long time. Some people say it's a spiritual site inherent with special light and a magic all its own. Nowhere can this essence be better experienced than at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. Look at all the famous people who have been drawn to its heart: D.H. Lawrence, Willa Cather, Ansel Adams, Georgia O'Keefe, Gertrude Stein and many more. Dennis Hopper bought the house and married Michelle Pfieffer there and, if that's not enough, Mabel Luhan herself, art patron and writer, taught knitting herself at a nearby pueblo. Really!
Now the site has given itself over to workshops and spiritual retreats, taking full advantage of it's view of the sacred Taos mountains, the luminosity of the atmosphere and the stellar, star-crusted evening skies. Food served is usually organic and harvested locally, not to mention delicious, but some swear you could live off the air itself: spiced by pinon and crystal clear.
Nearby in Taos itself with one of my favorite yarn stores, La Lana, with it's baskets of locally-dyed silk and wools with the most incredible selection of rovings for discerning roving knitters, with Southwest Knitting and Weaving nearby. And, if Taos isn't enough to lure you, Santa Fe is nearby with it's art-rich environs and a spirit all its own.
Though the details of this excursion are still evolving, the organizers ususally keep the workshops for the morning with afternoons and evenings free. That means time for museum wanderings, yarnshop visits, shopping, dropping by a winery and more shopping. This is my kind of trip.

I'm not the organizer of this one but I'll be posting the link to Carrie, the organizer, as soon as the details are arranged.
