The River of Life

Riverwords
I often think of the internet as a great river filled with currents and channels much like the real river flowing right outside my door (currently frozen). On summer days, I go to the end of the deck and sense the mood and health of that waterway. Are their many dragonflies about, frogs plopping in the shallows, fish swimming along in stream? When I feel that sense of teaming life, it's like all's right with the world.
The internet affects me in a similiar way. It's as though I can sense change, a collective mood. Of course, we are all in unique lives in very individual circumstances and yet we do belong to a collective whole that almost feels as one.
These last few weeks, as I stand by my computer deck and sense outward, I'm feeling a collective sense of waiting. We've been sobered by Haiti, reminded that, no matter gow bad may seem our personal circumstances, nothing quite trumps that, leaving us simultaneously grateful for what we have and eager to help. Yet, at the same time, many of us have done all we can within our personal circumstances and still feel guilty if we do anything special for ourselves. Meanwhile, we're nearing spring yet deep in snow in one hemisphere and gearing up for another in certain southern climes. A new season is close but we're not guite there yet. We're all waiting, waiting. We need a shift and a change; we're craving a signal to energize, to move.
That's what I'm sensing these days. Well, I'm with you. Though I'm using this deck time to write, design, read and reflect, a large part of me is craving movement. Energy certainly flows within me but now I find myself reaching out, seeking connections as if trying to charge up those caught in the bounds of waiting.
The February newsletter goes out this weekend. Expect a blast of color (you know you crave it) and plenty of news. As the month unfolds, I'll start sharing what I've been up to with yarn and imagination. Spring is coming, my winter friends, and those of you in warmer climes may love my homage to jungles and growing things. Up until now, I just didn't think anyone was truly ready. The collective self focused elsewhere.
