SANTA FE: A Travellers Yarn

super_stash

HEAVEN'S STASH

Yes, my amigos, feast your eyes on that stash shot above, only a portion of which fits into my little camera's viewfinder (I need panoramic capabilities to do it justice). You are looking at a glimpse of stash heaven, the perfectly and lovingly organized, abundant and bodacious and utterly gorgeous stash of my friend, Patricia Werner, from Dazzling Knits fame. Everything about this lady dazzles as befits her book's name, her spirit and her home, a celebration of color if ever I saw one. She painted a portrait of Frida Kahlo on her kitchen walls and believes, as do I, that mucho is mucho. Look at this way, if you're 'over the top' there's no time to be scraping the bottom.

Though I'll be sharing with you the highlights of my Santa Fe trip over the next few postings, which included treks into canyons in the (gasp!) 96 degree heat, eating fabulous meals (check visual hip measurements in following photos), leading a workshop to some already incredible knitters, purchasing yummy yarns and heaps of beads, and so many other inspirational activities, nothing is as special to me as connecting with new friends.

Besides meeting Patricia, Edele, who has been exchanging emails with me for at least a year now, and I arranged to get together in the company of our respective hubbies to bring our bodily presences together after communing on the virtual plane. THanks for everything, Edele—you are one special lady!

Workshop in progress at Oodles Yarns&Beads, Santa Fe

My students are deeply engrossed in adventure knitting while Bev, the proprietor, looks on amid a stream of curious customers (not shown). MY books sold out as I held my first semi-official book signing. Stay tuned: more to come!

Ah, Summer Has Arrived….

'Bring on that cocktail! Where's the suntan lotion? What's a guy got to do to get service around here?'

squirrel_resort_1_400

Yawn. 'Time to flip, avoid those tan lines. Hey, buddy, got nuts?'

Picture Summertime ('and the livin' is easy...) sung to the sight of a squirrel enjoying the roof of his condo.

Forgive me for posting something that has nothing to do with knitting or even travel. No, this bit is about squirrels. My squirrel. Or, actually, I'm his person. You see, my house is an extended resort for a certain tree-living rodent. True, feeding him doesn't help but it's still a shock to awake from a winter's hibernation to find your barbecue turned into squirrel condo.  Nothing is less appetizing that a two-foot pile of leaves and squirrel pickings so we evicted ourselves and turned over the keys. Now the tenant lies about in the sun relaxing

From the entry 'OF GIANT FIRS, COASTAL RAINFORESTS AND I'M STILL IN CANADA'.
Imagine that, they still take Canadian money in Canada! We love Granville Island - Dave and I visited Vancouver for our 30th anniversary three years ago and stayed at the hotel on Granville. What a great place!
