HOW DO I INTERPRET THEE? LET ME COUNT THE STITCHES…

Dazzling Patricia's Sunset Bolero Vest Emerging

I love it when another knitter takes one of my patterns and makes it uniquely their own. Patricia Werner, an extradordinary knitwear artist in her own write (well, she's an author )  embarked on the Sunset Bolero vest pattern after falling in love with one of the knitted versions I brought along to the Santa Fe workshop. And here she's taken it off to new heights with different stitch combinations and a particuliarly gorgeous colorscape. Isn't it beautiful? Well, she upped and bought the Sunset Bolero I designed but I love hers as much as she evidently loved mine. Yes, we have a true mutual admiration club at work here but can't help ourselves: it was kindred spirits at first stitch.

Dazzling Patricia

If you haven't seen Patricia's book, seek it out at your bookstore. Anytime you need a magic carpet ride of inspirations,

you'll find it between her pages. Her color sense is extraordinary as are her designs.

Yan Sun's Scarf

And Yan from Adelaid, Australia, sent me this picture taken by her husband of a scarf she knit from my free-range

pattern. She writes:

'By chance I found
your website few months ago, I fell in love with your knitwear
designs, full of freedom, no stress upon gage at all, which is often
my headache while knitting. So I tried to make a free range scarf, as
I couldn't find the yarns with exact color and texture, it turns out
totally different from your pattern, but I love it and this makes me
believe I'm able to create as well. I didn't add any beads on even I
tried hard, couldn't make it, it was replaced by a tassel.smile '

You certainly can create, Yan—no doubt in my mind on that score. Those colors are stunning and it's all your doing not mine. I just provide the canvas, you worked the magic. This scarf is a stunner.

SANTA FE: A Travellers Yarn

super_stash

HEAVEN'S STASH

Yes, my amigos, feast your eyes on that stash shot above, only a portion of which fits into my little camera's viewfinder (I need panoramic capabilities to do it justice). You are looking at a glimpse of stash heaven, the perfectly and lovingly organized, abundant and bodacious and utterly gorgeous stash of my friend, Patricia Werner, from Dazzling Knits fame. Everything about this lady dazzles as befits her book's name, her spirit and her home, a celebration of color if ever I saw one. She painted a portrait of Frida Kahlo on her kitchen walls and believes, as do I, that mucho is mucho. Look at this way, if you're 'over the top' there's no time to be scraping the bottom.

Though I'll be sharing with you the highlights of my Santa Fe trip over the next few postings, which included treks into canyons in the (gasp!) 96 degree heat, eating fabulous meals (check visual hip measurements in following photos), leading a workshop to some already incredible knitters, purchasing yummy yarns and heaps of beads, and so many other inspirational activities, nothing is as special to me as connecting with new friends.

Besides meeting Patricia, Edele, who has been exchanging emails with me for at least a year now, and I arranged to get together in the company of our respective hubbies to bring our bodily presences together after communing on the virtual plane. THanks for everything, Edele—you are one special lady!

Workshop in progress at Oodles Yarns&Beads, Santa Fe

My students are deeply engrossed in adventure knitting while Bev, the proprietor, looks on amid a stream of curious customers (not shown). MY books sold out as I held my first semi-official book signing. Stay tuned: more to come!
