For me, colour and texture rule and most of the inspiration feeding my imagination comes from the natural world. I see knitting as art, as viable as any other, and no matter what the tool or preferred palette, in human hands, magic happens.

Jewelry

Jewelry has long been a passion. I love the feel of a beautiful stone, the soft glint of metal, the color and texture of natural elements married on a strand. I also believe that stones have special powers, sometimes endowed by a love an individual may feel towards a special piece and sometimes encapsulated in the stone itself.

Wherever I travel, I forage for lovely elements from Baltic amber to Berber silver, each piece selected for its unique qualities. These pieces are created from the heart. They are one-ofs, never mass-produced,  and can be customized by length, if desired. In rare cases, I can make similiar pieces in another metal or in different colors. Don't hesitate to ask.

The Miracle of Trees

the_miracle_of_trees_2_512

The Miracle of trees: shade, wood, nuts and fruit, a home for birds and creatures, and so much more. Here is my ode to trees with a piece of forest jasper below an orb of hand-made green glass  along with agate, amber, jasper, pearls and hand-made enamel discs with brass and copper.

BEFORE TIME

The pleasure and magic of wearing something ancient and magic around your neck has been a craving of humans for as long as we've existed. Stone has life and magic that we understand without really knowing why. I believe stones have power and sometimes I'm attracted to various pieces for either their beauty or the sense of something energetic surrounding them. The central piece of creamy fossil stone is hand-carved with leaves and you can just see the imprint of a tiny organism from time's first eon.

I wanted this piece to have a sence of prehistory, of earth notes complete with jasper, chased glass, and small illuminous bits of subtle color. The hand-made glass orb contains swirls of cream, grey and dusk. This one is subtle enough to wear every day but can take center-stage when worn over a simple blouse. Copper clasp.

FAIRY QUEEN

fairy_queen_necklace_512

Fairy queens would surely wear this ethereal green hue and grace their neck with crystals, aqamarine, and silver. This necklace is very speacial. Below a hand-carved piece of Chinese jade hangs a nugget of aquamarine the shade of sea foam gleaming with sun. Above a hand-blown orb of glass, leaf-chased sterling silver capd frame crystals which , in turn, slip into agates, pearls and art glass. The clasp is a sterling silver leaf.

SUNBEAMS IN THE FOREST

deep_woods_sunlight_512

Walk in the deep woods on a clear day and sudden, warming, sunbeams will penetrate the canopy and warm green to golds. Here, a stunning piece of jasper with natural green, grey and yellow bands hangs beneath a ring of jasper, genuine rare yellow amber, glass, tiger eye, and bronze with a dangle of hand-blown art glass dangling from the jasper. The lobster claw bronze clasp is adjustable.

SEA CHANGE

The paua shell like the abalone catches every hue in the rainbow, often reflecting rivers of blue melting into green and into lavendar. Turn it in another direction, and the light finds a sheet of  silver. I found this shell in New Zealand and fashioned this piece with bronze filigre amid three kinds of abalone beads, agate , glass and lavander freshwater pearls. The back of the piece differs still with the intriging rough side of the shell picking up greens. Where this one with any color!

Lady Tiger

All right, well if nobody falls in love with this, I have. I love the shifting surface of tiger eye, here partnered with butter amber, glass, bronze, copper and a bit of bronzite. See those smokey-gold ovals near the bottom? Those are hand-enameled with intriguing inclusions that activate sunrises and misty morns. The metal disk lends an ancient feel to the piece. It looks fabulous against black, brown or skin!

Neptune’s Tribe

I found this rectangle shimmering in a shop and immediately recalled my New Mexican turquoise pendants, this one which happened to pick up all the color nuances of the abalone's surface. Strung with more turquoise, more abalone, copper, brass and art glass, the overall effect is a bit like Neptune gone tribal. It picks up nearly every color.

Heart of the Voyager

heart_of_the_voyager_512

The Heart of the Voyager is restless, wants to go treking across the world's terrain, see Antartica, meet the peoples of the north, sail the seven seas. The Heart of the Voyager brims with wanderlust and rarely quiets at the hearth.

This necklace is for you, my wanderer. A slice of caramel agate hangs like a talisman beneath a silver and bone Thai amulet. Above the jasper disc, a circle including Indonesian silver beads meets traveling companions in carved Zuni fetish whales, turquoise, jasper and amber. Let them be your friends. They're waiting.

Autumn Leaf

Pretty, delicate, are the words I'd describe the overall effect of Summer Leaf. Silver dangles of pearl, citrine and amber  cluster around a jasper leaf, elements echoed along the strand amid amber, citrine, jasper, pearl, silver and crystal. A stray beam of light will cause flickers of luminescence. The clasp is sterling silver with freshwater pearl. 17" long

Jungle Dance

A child of the jungle at heart, I often imagine the rich, luxurious growth of a jungle, the natural patterning of nature in the raw.

Here's my ode to the jungle: very green, a little tribal, and yet so wearable for any nature girl. A hand-made in Kenya pottery bead dangles a green aquamarine with bands of bronze and copper. Along the 'vine' run hand-made glass wedges, extensions that look much like tree bark and branch, ocean jasper, and seed pods. Despite the touch of grrr, it hangs with suprizing delicacy against the neck, no doubt due to the aquamarine's gentle influence. 17 inches long.

Deep Forest

A single leaf-viened agate hangs suspended from a vine of hand-blown glass 'bamboo' beads, freshwater pearls, glass amonites, butter amber, venetian glass and beautiful natural gold and green agates I found in Italy which, in turn, are capped by little acorn-top beads. A raw garnet, onyx, and tiny chips of aventurine complete the circle. The clasp is brass. I kept this piece for a long time just to look at but the time has come for it to find a home. 17 inches in length.

Isis Pool Necklace

We goddesses love the ocean. Who can forget Venus on the half-shell in that famous Renaissance painting? So, it seemed fitting that I make a sea godesses necklace with a double-back abalone shell rimmed in silver keeping company with abalone nuggets, pearls, bronze, and hieroglyphic glass wafers all fastened with a sterling silver clasp.

The abalone orb will pick up practically every color in your wardrobe not to mention flatter your skin.
