KNITTING IN SANTA FE

I'm back! Not for long, it's true, but home never the less. With me has come a cache of primarily hand-dyed yarns and so many glorioso beads (more on both on another post) that I can't wait to begin creating. Meanwhile, I have fallen completely and utterly in love with Santa Fe and have now decided to become engaged. Yes. The courting has gone on for several trips now but on this last excursion, after spending time with good friends and making so many new ones, we decided to find a way to live there, at least part of the year. Did I mention the five yarn stores? Consider this: only 50,000 people support FIVE yarn stores. What does that tell you? I felt right at home: a knitting friendly town. This is my place, my home away from home. John's surrounded by rocks is happy, especially if he can find someone who will let him landscape or build decks for them.

But on to my story: the workshop in Santa Fe (I'll write all about the Taos retreat in other postings) was simply fabulous, not so much because of me (I just show up and do my thing) but because of the organizers : Ricki, Beth and Judy, who also put together the San Jaun Capistrano event. We began at Oodles, one of those lush yarn stores I told you about, moved onto a Mexican restaurant next door (yes, one can knit while sipping Margueritas of sip while knitting Margueritas, depending on how much you embibe) and spent Sunday at Ricki's glorious adobe abode in the Santa Fe hills. Perfect in every way, the workshop offered varying venues with the best and most glorious touch being in Ricki's lovely home partaking in liberal doses of ambience, companionship, creative stimulation and Judy's simply scrumptious food. Judy cooks the way I knit: with the best ingredients simply prepared. In her case, the results are truly a feast.

Next posting: more photos and details. And, if you're interested, another southwest excursion is in the works for May 2010 which will include a few days in Santa Fe yarn foraging and more before we head for Taos and the fabled Mable Luhan house!

What's the flip side of KNIT? (4 character(s) required) Answer:

Sounds wonderful. I can't wait to see your photos of the Mabel Dodge Luhan place. Over fifteen years ago I was brought in to evaluate the idea of turning the place into a destination spa. Our conclusion was that unfortunately, it wasn't the right facility, but I fell in love with the place. Has it been renovated?

Hello, Your web site is as beautiful as your wearable creations! I am looking forward to a first visit to Santa Fe and Taos sometime in the comimg year. I can see why it has captured your heart! Will store your descriptions of the yarn shops. Could you please also give tghe scoop on that beautiful "knitting" bag in the photo??? It goes so well with the boots - and even a girl from Cincinnati Ohio could persuade herself that she needs some great boots if she owned a knitting bag like that. Look forward to reading more about your adventure Susan

Recent Comments love it. Another stunner. I can think of many dragon color ranges from my boys pokemon card collecting days! Blues eyes White Dragon was everyone's favorite.
