KNITTING IN EXOTIC LANDS

Ilham wears her new shawl by Amal
What is it like to knit and explore a different culture accompanied by new friends who share like passions? Let the photos tell the tale while I fill in the details. Amal and I lead our first Moroccan knitting tour this week based in the luxurious riad, Les Yeux Bleus, where one of our gracious hosts, Ilham (pictured above) and fabulous staff attended to our every need.

In between souk shopping excursions, which we all agreed is the best foraging in the world, knitting erupted up and down the riad, sometimes in solitude and often in cosy groupings. Amal and I, collaborative teachers and soul sisters, helped each of our adventurous knitters try new stitches and launch personal knitting excursions. Our goal was to offer options—vests, shawls, ruanas—rather than a fixed project. But this is Morocco waiting out there. Who can blame us for diving into the souks every day?
