For me, colour and texture rule and most of the inspiration feeding my imagination comes from the natural world. I see knitting as art, as viable as any other, and no matter what the tool or preferred palette, in human hands, magic happens.

Creative Knitting Clubs 2017

CLUB #1 :MEET THE STRANDED KNITTING WORKSHOP

At last, a more relaxed way to stranded knit! Learn how in this detailed workshop in 5 parts, each section focusing on 1 project.

• 5 DESIGNS COMPRISE THIS CLUB WITH A VEST AND A WRAP AS THE FIRST TWO, WINTRY PROJECTS.

• EACH DESIGN OR SET OF DESIGNS CAN BE APPLIED TO ANY OR ALL OF  THAT FOLLOW IN THE 5 ISSUES.

• EACH PROJECT INCLUDES MODIFIED CHARTS, BUT THE GOAL OF THIS KIND OF STRANDING IS TO COMBINE THE MORE REGIMENTED, CHART-BORN MOTIFS  WITH MORE ORGANIC DESIGNS THAT NEED NOT FOLLOW A FIXED FORMULA.

• AT LEAST ONE PROJECT IS MOSTLY INTARSIA WITH MOTIFS DESIGNED TO MOVE AROUND WHATEVER DESIGN SURFACE YOU PREFER.

THE ODE VEST

The first workshop guides you to make this vest. Join the knitalong I'll be launching on Ravelry to get extra assistance and videos.

Back fitted version

Choose your inspiration and make this vest an ‘ode’ to whatever moves you. Love a piece of textile? Select like colors and make this vest your homage. Hanker after a leafy forest or a summer garden? This vest can be your song to nature’s glory. For me, it was the rich, orange-saturated hues of autumn that inspired my choice of colors.
The design features an organic free-form stranded stem bottom which ends at the natural waistline, after which follows two kinds of randomly-applied motifs--the leaf burst and an eighteenth century upholstery flower, all stranded knit.  An alternate version is unfitted with open sides for a roomier fit. Instructions are given to size both to your body.

All are unabashedly free-spirited. The motifs are designed to be 'fudged' in organic ways to create the natural look of the design. Change them up, no need to slavishly follow the charts!
